What do the Organic Trade Association OTA seal - Made with Certified Organic Ingredients and USDA seals mean?

The Organic Trade Associations (OTA’s) mission is to promote and protect organic trade to benefit the environment, farmers, the public, and the economy. OTA envisions organic products becoming a significant part of everyday life, enhancing people's lives and the environment. OTA is a leader in protecting organic standards so that consumers can have confidence in Certified Organic production. Consumers can be sure they are not being misled by false labels. OTA represents businesses across the organic supply chain and addresses all things organic, including food, fiber/textiles, personal care products, and new sectors as they develop. OTA has been a key player in shaping both the regulatory and market environment for organic products. Novena has been a member of the Organic Trade Association since 2008 to present.

Products labeled "Made with or Containing Organic ingredients" must contain at least 70% organic ingredients. Products labeled 100% Organic must contain only organically produced ingredients. No other ingredients or additives are permitted. Products labeled “organic” must contain at least 95 percent organically produced ingredients (excluding water and salt). Products that are USDA certified or certified organic have been certified through the United States Department of Agriculture and the the only products legally able to bear the USDA seal. Novena is not USDA certified nor does it display the USDA seal on any of our packaging however Novena does contain ( made with ) certified organic ingredients in percentages substantially above the 70% minimum required.

What does the Choose Cruelty Free (CCF) NOT TESTED ON AMIMALS seal mean?

CCF will not accredit a manufacturer if any of its products contain any of the following ingredient practices:An ingredient derived from an animal that was killed specifically for the extraction of that ingredient.An ingredient that was forcibly extracted from a live animal in a manner that occasioned pain or discomfort to that animal. An ingredient that is derived from any wildlife. Any ingredient that may be a by-product of the fur industry. An ingredient or by-product that may be from a slaughterhouse.

What does the Vegan seal mean?

A product that is labeled “Vegan” is certifying that there are no animal ingredients or by-products in the product. That they do not use any animal ingredients or by-products in the manufacturing process, and the ingredients are not tested on animals by any company or independent contractor.Vegans consider that all ingredients that come from an animal are part of an animal, and animal by-products are substances produced by animals (e.g., honey, milk, bees wax, etc.).

Environmentally Safe

What does the Environmentally Safe Product seal mean?

The product is truly an eco-friendly / environmentally safe product. The product keeps both environmental and human safety in mind. The product is non-toxic and uses sustainably grown or raised ingredients produced in ways that do not deplete the ecosystem. Organic ingredients and materials are grown without toxic pesticides or herbicides. Products are made from recycled or recyclable materials (glass, wood, metal or plastics). These biodegradable products break down through natural decomposition, which is less taxing on landfills and the ecosystem as a whole.

Novena Maternal Skin Care qualifies under the strict manufacturing practices for safe and non-toxic ingredients within a rating of 0 to 2. This is the highest rating obtainable for safety in personal care/cosmetic manufacturing.
